Malaysian University English Test (MUET)
Malaysian University English Test or MUET is a mandatory English Language proficiency test for students interested in studying in colleges in Malaysia. The test is set and run by the Malaysian Examinations Council (MEC). MEC also runs the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia examination, which is largely recognized in Malaysia and Singapore (only).
MUET is a pre-requisite for admission to all public & private universities and colleges in Malaysia as well as National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University.
All universities set different target band scores for different courses. For example, students who want to pursue Law will be required to obtain a Band 4 in MUET, while students who want to pursue Medicine will be required to obtain a Band 5. MUET is also compulsory for graduating from a local university.
Listening, Reading Comprehension and Writing components are usually tested on the same day with the same paper nationwide. The Speaking component is tested both as an individual task and in groups of up to four, usually with different papers for different groups.
Registration Process
Students planning or interested in taking the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) will have to register via their institution, while private candidates will have to register with their State Education Department with a small registration fee of RM 101. They can also register online.
